The incumbent will have a well-established record of world-class research and be expected to develop a strong collaborative research program at the University of Alberta focused on the development of enhanced geothermal systems with particular attention to various aspects of reservoir modeling. Applicants should have expertise in one or more of the following areas: structural geology, reservoir geology and geomechanics, stress modeling of fractured reservoirs, geothermal exploration or related topics. Successful implementation of enhanced geothermal energy systems requires an understanding of a variety of topics, ranging from characterization of geothermal resources, to deep drilling technology, to energy economics, and power plant construction. The CAIP Chair will have demonstrated expertise that spans a range of these topics and can catalyze interactions with industrial partners and government and academic research partners in Alberta. The appointment will be at either the Associate or Full Professor level. The successful candidate will be appointed to a faculty position in the Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences and can, if desirable, have strong links to the Department of Physics.
